Blues are deceptively hard to nail down–they easily can go greenish, grayish, or even purplish within just a shade or two. Go to dark, and you go into navy blue (see the best navy blue paint here.) That's why it's important to understand what undertones to look for and the key to picking out the right paint color the first time.

  • LRV: Palladian Blue  has a LRV of 61.17–meaning that it reflects quite a bit of light. LRV is basically a percentage of a color's light reflectance (light reflectance value= LRV). The higher the number the more light it reflects. Compare Palladian Blue's LRV of 61 to Hale Navy which is 4.
  • Comments: Palladian Blue is a fantastic ligth blue to use in your home–it's a classic light blue, like you would think with it's name. Below you can see how lovely it looks in a bathroom with Simply White Trim.

• Breath of Fresh Air

  • LRV: 70.55
  • Comments: Breath of Fresh Air is part of Benjamin Moore's Classic Color Collection because it is a classic light blue–perfect for little boy's nurseries, or bathrooms. It doesn't have much green in it (and less than Palladian Blue), so I think that gives it a lot of youth. And it also doesn't have much gray in it, hence why it is best in small doses and/or childrens' rooms.

  • Comments: Benjamin Moore's Wythe Blue is part of their historic color collection, and you can see why–it reminds me of the classic colors of the American Revolution. It'd be a fantasic color for a colonial house to use or as a front door color.

• New Hope Gray:

  • LRV: 59.86
  • Comments:New Hope Gray is another bluish-gray but I also think it might be considered a light blue (look how light blue it looks in the mudroom below by Caitlin Wilson!) The amount of gray in it gives it versatility, and I think it's a fabulous color for a bathroom, cabinets, a kitchen island, or laundy room (and I plan on painting mine that color too!)

• Van Courtland Blue:

  • LRV: 30.42
  • Comments: Benjamin Moore Van Courtland Blue is a fantastic grayish blue, and is a pretty dark light blue in my opinion (as evidenced by it's low LRV of 30.42 compared to 60 with other light blues.) Neverthelesss, if you are considering a light blue paint color and want it in a "grown up" part of your house, Van Courtland Blue is a favorite. Because it has so much gray in it, it lends itself well to being used on cabinets, in general living spaces, and front doors.

• Blue Veil 875:

  • LRV: 75.25
  • Comments: Blue Veil is another classic light blue paint color–with a good amount of gray in it. It is similar to Palladian Blue but has less green in it. I love the idea of a Blue Veil bedroom because I think it would be a fantastic relaxing paint color (see other great suggestions for your master bedroom paint colors here!)

• Jet Stream 814:

  • LRV: 66.42
  • Comments:  Benjamin Moore Jet Stream is another very strong light blue. Because it doesn't have a lot of gray or green in it, I wouldn't personally, use this in a general living area–maybe as an accent color for a door, a piece of furniture. But, it would go great in a kids' bedroom because it is such a youthful blue.

• • Antiguan Sky 2040-60

    • LRV: 69.37
    • Comments: Antiguan Sky is a very saturated and greenish light blue paint color. Like Jet Stream, I think it's best in small doses, as a whole room in this paint might be a bit overwhelming for a room aside from a tropical cabana or beach house bathroom! It would however, make a fabulous front door color as shown below!

• Lake Placid 827

  • LRV: 65.59
  • Comments: Lake Placid is a fantastic light blue that has a good amount of gray in it and just a smidge of purple. We used it at 50% saturation/ strength in my son's room, which you can see below. Whenever you worry that you don't want a color quite so dark, consider cutting it in half, or quartering it. We did the same in my daughers' pink room here in pink.

• Icy Blue

  • Comments: Benjamin Moore Icy Blue is another fantastic light blue paint choice for your home. Because it is so intense (and quite youthful) I would recommend using it in small doses around your house. It's great as an accent piece, or as an accent color in a bathroom. It's fresh and slightly greenish undertones make it a fantastic choice for somewhere you want a youthful and clean aesthetic.

  • Comments: BM Iced Green is another lovely pale light blue. It is similar to Icy Blue and has a lot of green in it, which makes it appear very youthful. Because of its saturation and brightness, I would recommend using this color in small doses and/or in a teenager's room.

  • Comments: SW Open Air is a fantastic pale blue–perfect for nurseries, as an accent wall, or in little boys' rooms. It is a sweet paint color, that would also make a great bathroom paint color. It goes nicely with white paints and navy blues.

• Krypton

  • LRV: 52
  • Comments: SW Krypton is another great light blue paint color, but it truly is a bluish-gray paint color (as you can see from the paint chip below.) See my complete notes on it here.

• Misty:

  • LRV: 64
  • Comments: SW Misty is a lovely bluish-gray paint color that is versatile enough to use in general use rooms in your house (kitchen, living room, family room).

• Sea Salt:

  • LRV: 63
  • Comments: SW Sea Salt is a fabulous light blue paint color that has a lot of green in it, it's great in bedrooms, bathrooms, and even a family room.

• Rainwashed

  • LRV: 59
  • Comments: SW Rainwashed is slightly bluer than Sea Salt, and has a little less green and more gray in it. Because of that, it's even more versatile of a color–a great paint color if you want to go for a coastal palette.

• Quietude

  • LRV: 62.12
  • Comments: Quietude is a fantastic light blue paint color that has a lot of green and a bit of gray. Because it is more concentrated than Rainwashed and Sea Salt, it goes better in more "serious rooms" that you would want to feel cozy. It's a bit dark for the walls in the heavy use rooms in your house like a living room or a kitchen, but it is a nice accent color.

• Honest Blue

  • LRV: 55
  • Comments:  Looking for a periwinkle light blue paint color? SW Honest Blue is an adorable periwinkle that reads slightly purplish but not too much. It would go well with white, navy blue, and other crisp and clean colors. Because it is so saturated, I would recommend making it an accent paint color or dilute it 25-50%.

Light blue is a fantastic paint color for a bathroom–it's calming, refreshing, and looks great with white! Here are a few of my favorite light blue paint colors that look terrific in bathrooms. Remember, that the more complex a paint color is, the more versatile it is. Meaning, if it has grayish or slightly greenish undertones, it will likely go more places and read less juvenile than a straight light blue, which I prefer to keep for nurseries.
